Nassam Yakubu

Goalkeepers Coach


Fifty – nine years ago Nassam Yakubu was born to chief Kpana Abukari Nassam and Ayuba Zenabu in Bimbilla, Nothern Region Ghana.

Yakubu attended school like any other child when he was of age and as he grew up he got interested in soccer and spent any little time he had playing with friends.

After his middle school, he attended Presbyterian teacher training college and became a teacher very early in his twenties completing the course in 1979.

Yakubu travelled to Nigeria in the 80s to teach and play soccer alongside as a goalkeeper for six years and returned to Ghana in 1987. He signed for Accra Hearts of Oak from 1988-1990 and became one of their leading goalkeepers. After two seasons he signed for Kumasi Corner Stons FC for a season and travelled again to Cote‘d Ivoire where he kept the goal for two Alliance d’ Bouake and state d’Abidjan between 1991-1994.

Back to Ghana in 1994 he signed for Ho Voradep FC 1994-1998 in 1999 he got admitted to the University of Winneba where he was awarded Bachelor’s Degree in Physical Education in 2003.

He was posted as a PE teacher to Bimbilla Secondary School in 2003. He started attending coaching courses in 2005 and by 2013 he had acquired CAF License A and also acquired CAF Instructors B License in 2015.

From regional Development coach in 2005-2008 he was appointed the U17 boys goalkeepers coach but on getting to camped doubled as the trainer for U17 girl as well as the Black Queens.

In 2010 he was appointed the Senior B team alongside previous duties.

In 2012 he was appointed as the goalkeeper’s trainer of the Black Stars and attended AFCON 2013 – South Africa, FIFA world Cup 2014- Brazil, AFCON 2015 Equatorial Guinea, AFCON 2017 Gabon.

In 2019 he was moved to the U23 as the goalkeepers coach and attended the U23 AFCON in Egypt 2019.

In 2020 he was moved to the U20 Women’s soccer team where he is up to present.

He has worked with all the national Soccer teams as a goalkeepers coach. He has also coached club sides like Medeama S/C Takwa and Accra Hearts of Oak as their Goalkeepers coach and Currently with Akyem Kotoku Royals FC of Akim Oda.

Aside wanting to learn as a coach he is very passionate about the work he does, always wanting to make his wards letter goalkeepers and players through his training.

He is an all-round coach who can coach outfield players as well.
